How to clean your old athletic shoes {DIY}

I thought I would share a quick and easy {diy} on how to get your old athletic shoes in like new condition. We are an athletic shoe wearing family; if we aren't in flip-flops we are in one of our many pairs of athletic shoes. Because we wear them so often they get pretty nasty looking. With a little scrubbing and the right products you can get them looking new in no time at all.

What you need:
Soft Scrub with Bleach (this is the miracle worker)
Borax
Oxi-Clean
Laundry Detergent
Old towel

Squirt plenty of Soft Scrub all over the shoe and immediately scrub it with a firm scrub brush. To my knowledge and experience this product does not discolor, however I scrub and distribute it evenly over the surface.

Next sprinkle Borax inside of the shoe. Borax can be found in the laundry section and is a natural laundry booster helping in removing stains and neutralizing odors.

Throw the shoes in the wash with your laundry detergent and some Oxi-Clean and an old towel to help keep the shoes submerged in the water and let the machine agitate for a minute then stop it to soak for 20 minutes and then run the cycle with an added rinse. Once they are done you can set them outside to dry in the sun for added bleaching or inside in front of a fan.

That's it! They are as good as new!

*I do not recommend washing shoes that you use as running shoes as it breaks them down.
