"Winter" has finally hit Texas....meaning the temperature has been a little below 70 degrees for more than three days in a row. When the weather gets chilly so do my feet. I can't handle our old hardwood floors without some thick socks to keep them covered all day. When it's time to go to bed I find that my feet are the last to get warm and that's why I want to share one of my favorite things with you. HERE is a tutorial I have posted about little rice sacks to be used for newborns. I have done the same thing but made a larger version to be used for adults. Click on the above tutorial but rather make your sack at least 12 inches x 9 inches. I would say I probably used at least 2 cups of rice for this sack.
I heat it up every night (for about 90 seconds) before I go to bed and then I place it at the foot of the bed before I go brush my teeth and wash my face and then by the time I'm ready to get in bed it's nice and warm. It's also perfect to use for lower back aches and around the neck. It keeps the heat for up to one hour and is warm for at least two hours. I like this idea much better than an electric heating pad that I have to remember to turn off and unplug.
This is also a great homemade Christmas gift idea. When I was a kid my best friends mom made these sacks for us in the shape of a Gingerbread man and she scented the rice with cinnamon. It truly was one of my favorite things well into early high school.
I hope y'all are having a great week! I just wanted to share a simple daily pleasure of mine.
