I don't have my own words yet. Just thoughts scrambled and messed up in my head.
I'm in the process of reading The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson. I highly recommend this book. I want to share a few excerpts from the book that describe my thoughts and feelings much better than I can articulate.
"This is one of the best ways I can be a servant leader to my children. When I model patience in the midst of difficulty, joy in the midst of messes, contentment in the midst of lack, then provide them with a pattern for their own lives. They will learn that my joy is not circumstantial but real because I have an endless source of strength through the power of the Holy Spirit in my life."
"Often I served my children joyfully and enjoyed the memorable moments of their growing-up years. But sometimes I struggles irrationally with their demands and then felt guilty for struggling. Instead of understanding that this was normal and that how I handled it would make all the difference in their lives, I often fought against it. In doing so, I'm afraid I lost many beautiful opportunities to be a servant leader in our home."
"I have realized that one of God's purposes for my children is to be his tool for disciplining me to make me more holy! I do not have to be a perfect mom--just an authentic believer. From interacting with my children, I have seen my own selfishness and my lack of patience more clearly than ever before! I have blown it many times with my children, but even these mistakes have helped me to mature and depend on God more than I would have without my parenting responsibilities."
I can feel God move in my heart with every page I turn.
Sally Clarkson holds a Mom Heart Conference every year in Dallas and I'm desperately trying to make it this year. Has anybody ever been or wanting to go? I would love to hear all about it.
On a lighter note. I read this article yesterday and it is spot on. If your a parent please go read it. I promise you will relate.

Hi there, I found your blog via the soap post on Pinterest and love it! I cloth diaper too, I have a 9-month old son. Question for you about the Mission of Motherhood book - I work full time so I don't know if you think it would still be a good read for me, or if it would make me feel guilty about working. I love my job and my son, it's been a tough balance but it seems to be working ok. Let me know what you think. Looking forward to catching up with you via the blog. ;)

I have a 2 year old little boy who I love more then anything but there are times,many, when being a mom is alot of work! I loved the Carpe Diem article. It was an eye opener! It made me realize that I don't have to be enjoying every second of parenting in order to be a good mom! And it taught me not to feel guilty when I don't enjoy every second! Thank you again for posting this! I love reading your blog. Your kids are adorable and so full of joy! Sorry this is so long but I was just so inspired by your little post today.

Reply DeleteI LOVE Sally Clarkson and am so thankful for her ministry! I have that book, I need to read it again. I remember pouring over it and highlighting everything! Sooo good! Being a mother is such a challenge.. and so fulfilling. Thank God for his abounding grace for when we mess up!

I know she was a stay at home mom and homeschooler so her experience is in that area but I can see her mission is truly to reach the heart of all mothers and their mission with their children. Every mom has a desire to be the best for their family and children no matter if your day is at home or at the workplace.
Reply DeleteMotherhood is not an easy thing. You have to make sure that your baby is comfortable all the time and give what they need. The hardest part is parenting or guiding them as they grow older.
