Nesting Part 1

You guys better get ready for a lot of nesting posts in the near future. We're working away knocking out some projects we have put off far too long as well as tackling the nursery and some new projects.

This large wall in our dining room has always been a challenge for me....well, this whole room has felt like a challenge to me. I have never felt like the room "fit in" or felt useful. I knew it needed something but I just wasn't sure what it was. I tried this spot as a play space before Christmas and it still felt awkward. We put our Christmas tree here this year and that was the first time I enjoyed looking at the wall.

Until one day I was out running errands at the local junk stores and thrift shops and stumbled across this beauty. It was in the work area of the shop and I asked if it was for sell,  they said they were sanding it down to refinish it and then they would sell it. I asked if I could take it off their hands as is...they were appalled that I was going to paint it and not stain it, almost to the point of not selling it to me.

I convinced them that it would look beautiful painted and they sold it to me.

For some reason so many people are scared to paint wood. I just don't get it. If you like the bones of a piece of furniture I think you should do whatever you want to it. Paint it, stain it, paint it turquoise, paint it white....do whatever is going to look best in your space and reflect your personality.

So here's my $60 beauty in all her glory. I just love this space now. I feel like it finally has the right identity.Of course the cabinets house all the little ones toys rather than fancy dishes but I wouldn't want it any other way.
